I'm thinking of doing the Long Branch Tri sponsored by the Sandy Hookers. My dad has expressed some interest and might be competing in it with me. Should be fun.

The Metroman Triathlon at Asbury Park was well run and in a great location. It offered a Sprint and Intermediate distance, which commanded over 500 participants. The swim started off the beach into the frigid ocean and concluded with a short run across the beach and boardwalk to the transition area. The bike course was well marked with plenty of volunteers and the run was parallel to the sprawling ocean along the boardwalk, with plenty of spectators lined along the finish.

This was my second triathlon and my first ocean swim. It was challenging, but I would definitely do it again. I spent a little more time in the water than I had planned, but finished with a strong bike and my best 5K time (17:54). I placed 2nd in my age group and in the top 25 for the sprint.

FYI: If you plan on staying in a hotel the night before, I would suggest the Empress because of its location. Not only is it close to the beach, but is extremely close to the transition area (you can probably see it from some of the rooms).
