Namaste!
Flexibility training is one of those things every athlete will admit they should do more of, yet few of us do this on a regularly. You can do many forms of training to improve your flexibility. Yoga is one form of training that can improve your flexibility. It integrates breathing and connects the mind, body and spirit. You will find not only improvements in range of motion with all the related benefits; you will also notice benefits to your relaxation and ability t
o focus.
This week I was fortunate enough to take a yoga class with fellow triathlete/ yoga instructor, Carolyn from Bhoga Yoga in Point Pleasant. She created a sequence of Yoga stretches that would help even the tightest athlete improve their range of motion and even arrived with handouts with a few of the poses so that we would be able to practice them properly.
Our routine incorporated basic poses, some of which you can do with or without props such as a rope/strap or block. She even introduced us to partner yoga poses like the ‘open boat’ then took it a step further…. the headstand, which was just fantastic! During class Carolyn always maintained her positive, encouraging and relaxing demeanor. In helping us to understand how important flexibility training is to performance and injury prevention for everyone she provided us with some great modifications for all ability levels.

We’ve discussed this before – flexibility is definitely on my “To-Do” list of improvements for 2010. Great to see you guys incorporating this as well.
