IMG_0455.JPGThis year we again participated in the Jimmy D 5K.  While I like any race that is walking distance from my home, this one is special.  Our friend Erin D’Heron Varga, has put this race on now for the 5th year in honor of her father and fallen New Brunswick Fire Fighter and hero, James D’Heron.

Erin has used the proceeds from the race to benefit children who are burn victims.  All told we had about  10 athletes and friends participating in the  race, and that was great in and of itself.  I lined up with Scott Charney, and Erik Donahue, and we went out in 5:40 pace through mile 1 (as planned).  The course is an out an back, with a slight down grade on the out.   It ends inside Memorial Stadium, in New Brunswick.

One of the nice things I realized about the out and back, was the great support from other racers.  I must have heard my name shouted 10 times on the course, so thanks!  Scott was smooth on Sunday and by the turn around slowly began to separate from Erik and I.  Erik likewise decided I was poor company and moved in front.  Though I kept them in sight, I did not have the power to pull them back in.

Scott finished in a PR, winning our Age Group at 18:06.  Erik, came in slightly back, also winning his Age Group in 18:20.  I came in right behind at 18:42, taking second to Scott in the AG.  We then cheered on friends and Athletes  coming in as well.  Michelle, finished strong, in 25.  Others included first time racer, Jessica  Pertucci; AC, Andy Campbell; Renita Reichard, Mallory Chance, Jules Martin and Steph Atkins.

The race had over 700 participants, and has by far the  best post race party in the area.  Check this out and add it to your  calendar next year
